2024 is the centennial anniversary of Max Roach, bebop innovator, prolific drummer, composer, activist and scholar. Celebrating Max Roach’s 100th birthday is to celebrate the man and musician as an institution in the development of the Black American Music known as jazz, who was fully engaged in the Black Revolutionary Tradition. This is a multi-dimensional, multi-citied project, executed with national stakeholders, including performing arts institutions, university and school system partners. The Max Roach Legacy Project engages communities in the legacy of Max Roach with a concert tour, panel discussions, symposia, an exhibition, a Max Roach at 100 K-12 Curriculum for Afro-descendant students, a children’s book and an edited volume of essays.
